RISO PRINTING BAND POSTER: “THROUGH THE WINDOW”- CHILLIES
My band is Chillies- a Vietnamese pop/rock/ballad boy band. Chillies is known as a unique band in Vietnam's Indie music market because the songs are all comprehensive views of life through a personal lens. Those are parallel roads, where lonely souls are looking for something far away. Each of their songs contains a story, a profound message about life expressed through simple and inspirational lyrics and vocals. Sad love stories told by the boys in their way with music touched the emotions of many audiences. Most of the band's audience as well as the audience of this poster are young Vietnamese people who love to listen to music with deep lyrics to reflect on life, and emotions or simply use these melodies to relax.
The word chosen for this poster is "window" taken from their album "Qua Khung Cửa Sổ" (translated into: "Through the window frame") - this is also a song title in this album. I get pretty much inspired by the "Qua Khung Cửa Sổ" MV concept (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmmbiyE-d4Q_) about a man in an astronaut suit facing his loneliness during the apocalypse/outta space. In the MV, there are 5 outstanding images that I want to include in my poster design:
1. Astronaut suit: symbolizes loneliness and is also the cover that people put on to separate themselves from the outside world.
2. Cassette tape: symbolizing the harmony and rhythm of two people when in love.
3. Desert: symbolizes being lost, disoriented, and unable to find a way out.
4. The sky: is the big world out there, where there are new people, new encounters
5. Window frame: About old memories of the love story the boy has just experienced
The overall message of this poster should tell the audience about loneliness and transmit the metaphor of the window about old memories. Hence, I want the poster to have surrealist elements with the window's position located in the middle of endless dark space and an astronaut figure to illustrate the stories. In order to represent loneliness, I choose a cool medium blue tone for this poster. The other color chosen is metallic gold, which represents valuable memories, an appropriate color to demonstrate the time. Furthermore, I think it would look nice in contrast to the dark blue background.
